It's more even now. I played a warlock on horde side for burning crusades (pvp server). It was alot easier to level up and travel for the horde with the zeplings near the capital cities. On alliance you had to travel far to get to a ship to get to the other side. Then do an epic run to get to get the other capital cities. Through much higher level zones. When wrath droped I went to alliance leveled up as a warlock. It took longer for me to level my warlock to 70 in wrath on my alliance character than horde. My friends that played/play both alliance and horde agrees horde is alot easier. Also if your an achievement junkie BC requires lest quest for horde to get the zone achievements. Or at least use to require less. If You were a pvper back in BC or prior the horde racials were for pvp. The alliance had no racials that helped with pvp. If you were stuck on quest leveling up in zones a quick hop in the zeplin run through lower zones and your set. Alliance you had to go to a boat miles away then run through higher zones just to get to quests that fit your character. Isn't it a wonder why all the developers play horde with few alliance alts?
